Tregembo Animal Park

Image
Every year me and my family always go to the beach right after the end of school. For me my favorite part of going to the beach is the way there, I love seeing all the sights and stops going to the beach. One of the stops we always make before we get to the beach is the Tregembo Animal Park. This is a family-owned Zoo that is a few miles from the beach. This Zoo is super small; it only takes around forty-five minutes to walk the whole thing compared to the almost three or more hours it takes to walk North Carolina Zoo. But the thing about this zoo is that it has more species of animals than the North Carolina Zoo in a smaller space. One other thing about this zoo is that they have free roaming animals like peacocks and ducks roaming the zoo. This zoo also owns a lot of different specie s that you rarely see at any other zoo like sloths and living with the sloths are tortoises, which is funny because they put the two slowest species into the same enclosure. ...

2016

Image
2016 was a very good year in my eyes. A lot of good things happened that year for me like getting a new game system, meeting new friends, all funny memes that came out that year, but the thing that most reminds me of that year was Pokémon go. Pokémon Go was such a different game compared to all other mobile games in the fact you actually have to go outside to play it. I remember the times where I forced one of my parents to go to the church just because I wanted to go and get a poke-stop. Every time I would go out, I would have to bring my tablet so I could catch some Pokémon. This game, despite being a game, actually forces me to go outside instead of keeping me inside all day. This game also got me into going to parks again since a lot of Pokémon would be constructed in parks. I also remember all the stories that came out of this game from the news like the crowds of Pokémon, crowding into one area just to get one Pokémon like the one in central park where th...

Herping

Image
Herping is something that I love to do, but I can only do it during the spring and summer months. Herping is the act of searching for amphibians or reptiles. Hering is a term that is very new to me because I have never known that searching for these small creatures had a name for it, but I am not a professional herpetologist, it is just a hobby of mine. One of my favorite finds was a Eastern Kingsnake (Lampropeltis getulus) which i s a very ra re find to locate because they ar e very ra re in North Carolina. This species of snake i s a very usef ul snake to have around your land because this species eats other species of snake , mainly venomo us ones. One of the cuter finds I have found in this hobby is a https://www.pinterest.com/pin/9570217937080590/ spotted salamander. This is a pretty b ig species of salamander that ca n mainly be found on land under leaf letters. This species loves to eat small pest species, so they have great species to have aroun...

The Beast of Finch Park

Image
When I was young, around 7 years old, I saw something that I cannot explain to this day. It was a day like any day. It was Sunday and Sunday is the day I go out with my grandparents to get breakfast, go to Walmart, and go to several parks around NC if my grandparents are in the mood and that day they were in the mood. After getting some good breakfast at McDonalds and shopping at Walmart, it was time to go to the park and finch park was the closest park. That day my cousin was with me, and I was so happy because I had someone to play with at the park. That day it was a little cloudy, but it was still a very warm day to play for hours. After a half of an hour playing on the playground it was a time walk trail that circled the lake at the far end of the park. I loved to walk this trail because of all the ducks that chase and all the small animals under rock and logs that I can catch along the trail. That day it was different because my cous...

Changing Opinion

Image
People's opinions change all the time but not mine. Normally my thoughts stick to something and never change but this time my thoughts have changed. Ever since online classes started, I have always hated it. Since high school when the first wave happened, I hated to have to log on to zoom or whatever site the teacher was using and lesson to teacher talk about something that was going into one ear and out the other. But now in college for certain classes I think that online classes are extremely useful. Like for English class because in English class you really do not learn anything, you are always writing and writing never changes. In online class I am not restricted to do my work in class so I can choose when I want to do my work at any time I want, making schoolwork a lot less stressful. Also, in college it seems that I do not have to have a camera on 24/7 during class during online class. I love this because it releases the anxiety fro...

Childhood Shows

Image
Being a kid from the 2000’s I had many kinds of shows to watch like SpongeBob SquarePants, fairly odd parent, and courage the cowardly dog. But a show that was not partially for kids, but I loved to watch is Monster Quest. Monster Quest was released in 2007 on History channel created by Doug Hajicek and was centered around exploring bizarre and unknown creatures that have been allegedly spotted by witnesses in various parts of the world. As a kid I was always interested in monsters and even though the creepy CGI monster scared me I still loved to watch this show. Rewatching as an “adult” this show still holds up to this day. I like the fact that this show is not one sided in one way or the another. Both sides of the skeptics and the cryptozoologist are both shown in each episode, and it is really your decision whether or not you want to believe either side by evidence given. The episodes are very formulaic, but I do not mind that because I know what to expect...

Park Ducks

Image
Something that always bugs me is park ducks. Not because I hate waterfowl and in fact, I love ducks and geese. I even own some like 2 Muscovy ducks and 3 African geese. The reason I dislike them is the concept of them existing where they are. Most waterfowl you see at the park are domestic ducks and geese. The way most these ducks and geese get to these parks they are released by people who cannot handle the care that ducks need or by people who have male ducks and do not want them (because most people do not want more than one male duck or because they are aggressive). The problem is most people see this as a moral act because they leave their duck free to swim to their life content. But in fact, it is a long shot from that. First, the predators that can easily catch and eat them because most domestic waterfowl cannot fly, and their food source relies completely on people and once that food source goes away in the winter they are doomed. Also, the environmental effects they have...

Should I get Cat?

Image
Something that always appears when you are on a farm are pests like rodents. Mice have always been a problem, but traps have always been a way to get rid of them but recently the mice have started to learn how to avoid the traps. Every time I go out, I get more and more complex mouse traps that start to get a little expensive and eventually I will run out of traps to buy. Something that I thought about is poison but if I do that, I have a chance of somehow poisoning some of my animals or poisoning some wildlife that eats the dead mice. Something that I have started thinking about is getting a cat , one of the best biological weapons against mice. There is a cat that sometimes comes around my house but to be honest that cat sucks at hunting mice and it is more of a house cat than anything. I have had cats before in my past but raising a barn cat is a little different because you have to train it to always be around chickens/other barnyard animals and to be always hunting f...

Spring Garden

Image
With all the snow that has happened for the last few weeks the winter garden is completely destroyed . All the different leafy greens (lettuce, turnip, kale, chard) are completely squashed by the constant snow. So now I have to start thinking about what I will be planting at the start of spring after the last frost. Last year what I noticed that I did the best are the many kinds of peppers that were planted. All the pepper is produced until the start of winter. The kind of pepper that did the best is the banana pepper so that plant will differently take priority . Something that I will definitely not plant is watermelon not because they produce poorly but because the fruit is so close to the ground box turtles can easily eat them. Something that I will plant differently is squash because of how much they produce but mainly how fast they grow and start to produce. Something new that I am thinking about growing this year is eggplant because that is a plant that I never tried to ...

Jurassic World Dominion

Image
The reputation of the last two Jurassic Worlds is not that high with both at best very average and at worst being just bad. My hopes are not that high but there is still some hope because of the information that has been released. The prolog for the movie looks great, the “realistic” designs of the dinosaurs meant to be prehistoric before Jurassic Park look great. Also, the way the prolog is shot makes it look like an animal documentary, which is also great. At the end of the prolog the Trex , later used as an attraction for Jurassic Park is killed by another larger dinosaur. Lot of people did not like this but for me I like it because it will be used as a plot pot for rex to get revenge because everyone knows that the dinosaur that killed the rex will also be recreated for movie and even if the movie sucks a good dinosaur fighting scene will always be entertaining. Something that a lot of people are excited about is the returning characters from the original...

skunk

Image
Something that I share my property with are skunks. Every morning when I go out, I smell a skunk without doubt. These things are everywhere where I live but the thing is I do not want them to leave for an extremely specific reason. The fact that they smell so bad a lot of predators do not want to eat them, in fact a lot of predators avoid them. Knowing this fact, instead of running them off or trapping them I let them stay. To keep them in one area what I would do is leave one egg every 3 days for them to eat. Ever since I started to do this predator activity has decreased to zero on my small farm. Another positive thing about having skunks other than indirectly protecting small livestock is they love to eat wasp larvae because they are immune to bee stings because of their thick hide, they remove any wasp colony in your area. But yesterday I started to have problems with them. My grandfather who lives right next to me told me that something is under his hou...

Should I get Dog

Image
Something that I have never had in my short lifetime is a dog. I have owned every species of animal that you have legally like finches, parakeets, snakes, geckos, anoles, cats, fish, and crabs but never a dog. There is a fat chihuahua who always comes to my house to visit me, but I do not own this dog as my neighbor does. If I were to get a dog, I do not want just a lap dog, I want one that does work because I live on a farm. I want one that can protect my livestock. One of the first breeds I was looking at was the great Pyrenees. This breed is very hardy, protective, and well known to be great around poultry. But they are expensive , and the hair constantly needs to be groomed. The second breed I was looking at is the German shepherd, a highly intelligent , protective, and defensive of people not just other animals. But it is a lot harder to train them to be around small animals. The final breed is just a shelter mutt. If I were to get a shelter dog it w...

what I am excited/hoping for this year

Image
This year hopefully will be much more exciting or less horrible than last year of 2021 being only a few weeks into the year it not that. One first thing that I am excited for this year is finishing the first week of school and passing with a passing grade. Right now, with my current class I am doing well and if I go forward with this I will hopefully succeed. Normally at the start of summer me and my family go to the beach. Last year's beach trip was not that eventful because of Covid. This year's new game selection is fairly good with new DLC hopefully this year gaming will be fun . After this year's summer break, I will be starting school again and hope by that time I will be accepted in my Zoology classes. The MASSIVE thing that I am Hoping for is the end or the mellowing down of Covid. Of course, most of the negatives from last year are caused by covid and with new variants I am not that hopeful, but it will start to die down, closing at the end of the y...
